Well, it was a good thing we had a successful garage sale day yesterday because today was extremely slow. We started the sale at 9am again, and attributed the lack of customers to the fact that people were probably at church. Well, the typical church hours came and went, and we only have a few people come by. I started to feel bad that my mom came all the way out, early in the morning, just to sit in our garage all day. At least I made breakfast and coffee; that always makes an early morning easier to handle.
The best way to pass the time!
The customers that did show up were quite entertaining to watch. Like the old, non-English speaking, granny who picked up one of my mom's purses, briefly checked it out and then carelessly tossed it to the ground! And the quirky older gentlemen who was clearly a garage sale expert and bargain hunter/treasure seeker. He asked questions about almost every item before giving us a pity sale of 3 DVDs for $5 (they were marked at 2 for $5). There was also a cute group of kids from down the rode (two boys and their feisty female ring leader) who came through to check out the goods, not once, but twice...and still didn't buy anything. Well, I take that back. A little boy from the group came back and shyly purchased a Wii game.
And my favorite customer had to have been the preteen who rode up on his bike, let down his kick stand, whipped off his helmet and immediately inquired about a car engine Michael had for sale. After having his questions answered, he hopped back on his bike and drove back up the street. A little later, he returned... kick stand down, helmet off and this time he asked how much Michael was selling his roller blades for. After hearing $5, he hopped back on his bike and was gone. We figured that was going to be the last of him, but we were wrong. After a bit, he was back and he picked up the roller blades to inspect them. After spinning all of the wheels, he took out his money and paid Michael. I urged Michael to offer him a bag and once the roller blades were secure, he placed the bulging Safeway bag on his handlebars and rode off into the distance...
Our best customer, monetarily, was the guy who purchased our ATV. After settling on a price, he left to go get the cash, and that gave us all a chance to take one last spin around the driveway! I look forward to having another ATV sometime in the future, but for now, the cash is way more appealing (I can't wait to bust out my "home improvements wish list" and see what I can get Michael to go for :)
Zoey emerged from the shade of the garage to take a picture with her Daddy
In the end, it was another successful day for Michael and I (thank you ATV guy!) and a lesson learned for my mom: Saturday is by far the better day for a garage sale! ;)
